I barrack for the Essendon Bombers and I have to say, this year was always going to be one to forget. Our list never had the depth that it could have had, and we were left with a mix of youngsters combined with a few older and slower players which has created a gap in talent for the team.
Early days proved exciting, with the exhilerating run of Davey up forward, and the mouth watering talent of Paddy Ryder, and yet with James Hird not there to fill in the gaps, Essendon is yet to have a player stand up to the pressure.
The injury list is the worst in the AFL at the moment, and yet there are some shining lights to get us Bomber fans through this dark time.
Jobe Watson's ability to find the ball and execute bullet hand balls is remarkable. The pace of Leroy Jetta is promising, along with Dempsey and Reimers.
It is time to recruit heavily to stabilise the backline, and to do this some players must be sacrificed. Matthew Knights announced this week that Jason Johnson and Damien Peverill will have 'limited opportunities' in the senior team, and whilst this is dissappointing for all fans, maybe this is the way to inject the Bombers with some youth and revist the glory years.
The future looks good, just ignore the present.
